Gorilla Closeup lodge is strategically located on southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park where you easily track Mountain Gorillas from Rushaga and Nkuringo Gate. The lodge is built on a 40 acre piece of land that shares the boundary with the park that has made it possible for mountain gorillas more especially the nkuringo gorilla groups visit our lodge in search for myrica,eucalyptus tree backs,fans and many other indigenous shrubs gorillas like feeding on. The lodge is ecologically build in harmony with nature using local materials available. Its owned by a local ugandan one Seith Byarugaba who whose grandfather was born in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and later on shifted his family to the boundary of the forest the home to more than a worlds population of rare mountain gorillas. It was purely built by local comunities and using local materials to be in harmony with nature and is also managed by local community as staff members of which some are reformed park poachers

It’s a new Lodge built in the memory of Dr. Diana Fossey for her great work researching on mountain Gorillas and also Dr. George Schaller the author of mountain Gorilla Kingdom book and the first researcher on mountain Gorillas in 1959 when he first visited Bwindi. With its proximity to the Road and Bwindi Forest, these 2 first great researchers used the premises where the Lodge is Build as their base and accommodation During that period of research 1959-1963

George Schaller started the research on Mountain Gorillas (Gorilla beringei) in 1959 and in 1963 he published the Mountain Gorilla; Ecology and Behaviour that first conveyed to the general public just how profoundly intelligent and general gorillas are,contrary to then common beliefs. Schaller also in 1964, recounted this epic 2 year study in the Year of Gorilla, which also provides abroader historical perspective on the efforts to save one of human kinds nearest relatives from the brink of extinstiction and Diana Fossey completed the research. Dian Fossey with assistance from National Geographic society and Louis Leaky, followed schallers ground breaking field research on mountain Gorillas and became instrumental in dispelling the public perception of gorillas as brutes,by demonstrably establishing deep compassion and and social Intelligent evident among gorillas and how very closely their behavior paralles that of human beings. We have hosted the famous mountain Gorilla Researchers including George Schaller the author of mountain Gorilla Kingdom book who used to stay round during the mountain gorilla research in 1959 when he first visited Bwindi and on several accasions Diana Fossey also during her research on Gorillas used to stay here.
